2011: South African Hospital Abuses White Patients

The Black staff at a public hospital in South Africa have been exposed as routinely abusing their White patients.
“The putrid stench of rotting flesh was overwhelming as it permeated the air of the septic ward – on our arrival,” writes Jacques Mare and Magda Stroebel of The Afrikaner Journal about visiting Pretoria’s Kalafong Hospital for the first time.
The two came to visit patient Annelies Koekemoer, who has been hospitalized at the facility since severly injuring her leg in a farming accident last December. Bedridden since then, Koekemoer alleges abuse at the hands of Kalafong’s Black staff and sent a desperate plea for help via the social-networking website Facebook.
Koekemoer “claims that because of this maltreatment her wounds, at one stage contained live maggots eating away at the rot in her leg,” reports The Afrikaner Journal. “She says the nurses don’t change the dressings, sometimes – not for weeks.”
All twelve beds in the ward Koekemoer is in are occupied, three by White women. The Afrikaner Journal reports all three women show signs of neglect and malnutrion, and report not being attended to or fed for days on end. She has also had to battle staff from stealing her personal belongings, and was left for days without bedsheets or even a pillow.
After finally being able to contact her lawyer and threatening to sue the hospital, Koekemoer has gotten the blood test results and antibiotic treatment.
She is trying to get transferred to a private hospital at Kalafong’s expense.
