Rhodesia’s Dirty Secrets when fighting the Blacks … an untold story from Rhodesian Military Intelligence

The Rhodesian story of killing Blacks using poisoned uniforms is one which seems to be more and more hidden, but it was repeated many times in the first books in the early 1980s, all of which were written by military guys. But Rhodesians do have more secrets. I was chatting to a Rhodesian woman whose late husband had been in Military Intelligence. She told me that her husband was very stressed out by what they did to the Blacks. He told her they did nasty things to the Blacks in return. She told me that her husband said to her that one time, they suspected that the Blacks in a village knew where the terrorists had planted landmines. But the Blacks weren’t talking. So they put a Black man in their vehicle and they tied his son to the bonnet – the front of the vehicle – the theory being that if they hit a landmine the child will definitely be blown to smithereens. The moment they began driving down the road the Black father freaked out and begged them to stop and he showed them where the landmines had been planted!
So a simple trick like that worked great. When I look at stuff like that, I don’t see any reason for a man to be stressed over something like this. This is a great move, and a simple trick to get a nice result. This was the only example she gave me of what her husband did. But it seems he was stressed a lot and had a drinking problem in later years from his time in Military Intelligence. I would love to know more.
