Military Power comparison: China to Taiwan – My Comments re: Chinese invasion of Taiwan

You can take a look at the various statistics that compare China to Taiwan. But you must keep in mind that these statistics alone, while making China look excellent, are deceptive.

China needs to cross the sea to get to Taiwan. It can’t use all it’s army. It can only use a small portion of it. So it can’t attack Taiwan’s 290,000 troops with it’s 2 million troops directly. It needs to get there. Its ships can be sunk and it’s planes can be shot down. Furthermore, when it finally reaches Taiwan, the Taiwanese will be on home ground, with defences in place and a high motivation to fight. Plus the Taiwanese very likely are better soldiers too. I’ve met Taiwanese people. In my short stint when I was in the South African Navy, some Taiwanese ships came to South Africa since they were an ally of South Africa and I went on board one of their ships with some other White guys in the navy. The Taiwanese were very nice to us.

I assure you that China will bleed a lot, and that is why China is all talk and all manoevre, but China doesn’t dare actually attack Taiwan. If it does, things will go very wrong. I reckon you would see the Chinese taking much bigger losses than you think.

Here’s where you can see a comparison of military power, but multiply those Taiwanese figures x2 or even x3 for a real war scenario.
