The wolf in the Bulgarian religion is an animal totem to be worshiped and revered for its exceptional strength, endurance and bloodthirstyness.
The name of the wolf is present in Bulgarian names such as Vulchan (voivode), Vulko, Valuo and Kurt – the true name of Kubert, according to the List of Bulgarian Kanaz
In Bulgarian folklore the wolf cult is strongly represented. An example of this is the Wolf Holidays in February and November, when rituals are performed to protect them from wolves while paying homage. The skull of the wolf was of occult importance and application: they placed it next to the beds of the mothers, as well as to the cradles to give birth to healthy and strong children.
From time immemorial, the wolf has symbolized the perfect warrior, the art of war, physical strength. Only Christianity defines the wolf as a symbol of the devil and the heretics.
The wolf is independent, untrained, inspiring fear and reverence. It is believed that the wolf is the enemy of vampires and judi that the wolf chases and hunts them down.
The wolf is the embodiment of virtue, a living example of courage, camaraderie and sacrifice.
The wolf pack is like a battle squad – there is order and hierarchy; life in it goes by strict rules. At the head of the pack is an alpha male who earns a fair driving license. In the same way, other wolves assert their place in the pack hierarchy.
In nature, the wolf is also an example of racial selection – both among its victims and within its own species. Where there are no wolves, herbivores become susceptible to disease and degeneration.
But the wolf does not tolerate the weak in its own way. When a wolf notices that one of the wolves grows weak, it shows it to others and they tear their brother apart. This is eugenics – the act of purifying a race from the unfit. But the wolf does not do it alone, but assigns it to his children to learn this basic lesson in life – “Racial purity is the first and fundamental law of nature.” (Bagatur Bolg).
The wolf is an example of a caring but strict mother, raising healthy and strong generations.
The wolf is an integral companion to humans in the raw battle for survival. Ever since ancient times, our ancestors watched the wolf and learned from its wisdom. They saw in the wolf a metaphysical likeness of themselves, of their own public order, and of virtue.
