A commuter said a machete-wielding man passed him just before he arrived at East Croydon station, in London, where he found a man slumped in the ticket office surrounded by blood
A horrified witness has described how he saw a stabbing victim surrounded by blood in a railway station ticket office.
The commuter also said a machete-wielding man passed him as he walked towards London’s East Croydon station earlier today.
British Transport Police launched a murder probe after a man was stabbed to death at the station, during rush hour.
A witness said: "I was passed by someone with a machete when walking up to East Croydon station, as I reached the top of the stairs there was blood everywhere and a lad slumped in the ticket office by the barriers.
"It didn’t look great, staff and security were on hand."

An air ambulance, land ambulances and police cars were dispatched to the scene at around 4.45pm today.
Detective Superintendent Gareth Williams, from British Transport Police, said: “Clearly this was a deeply shocking incident, outside a very busy transport hub in Croydon.
"Tragically, a young man has lost his life tonight and I know this will be heartbreaking news for his family.

"We have now launched a murder inquiry and I am urgently appealing for any witnesses to get in touch. We believe the assault happened near the back entrance to East Croydon station near Ruskin Square, shortly after 4.30pm."
A police spokesman said: "Officers were immediately on scene, as were paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance.
"Sadly, despite the best efforts of the paramedics, a young man was pronounced dead at the scene.
"A murder investigation is now underway and a cordon is in place near to Ruskin Square while those enquiries continue."
There is a heavy police presence at the scene, with the air ambulance reportedly landing nearby in Park Hill Park.
London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was ‘deeply saddened’ to hear about the man’s death and insisted he was doing his best to help the ‘overstretched’ police to catch offenders.
He tweeted: "Deeply saddened to learn a young man has lost his life.
